 FEBRUARY  UNIT  OF  STUDY

Our unit of study for February is Nutrition. Concepts will include:

*Classify vegetables and fruits.

*Health treats vs. junk food

*Food pyramid

*Tasting tests, we will taste sour, sweet ,salty.

During this unit we will be making the following tasty treats:

                                              1.   sliced apples with yogurt and granola sprinkles

                                              2.   pizza snacks

                                              3.   oatmeal cookies           

                                              4.   fruit salad

VALENTINES  DAY  PARTY !!!!

On Tueday, February 14^th we will be having a Valentine’s Party with the children. At this time children will have an opportunity to exchange valentine cards and treats with each other. We will be making Valentine bags at school. Please have your child bring cards for all the children if they’d like to exchange !!

HEART MONTH

February is American Heart Month ! As we will be talking to the children about nutrition this month, here is a fun, quick and healthy snack idea.

I cup of strawberry low fat yogurt ( or plain yogurt with honey added)

A portion of blueberries

Loose granola bits

Fresh sliced strawberries

It takes 2 minutes to put together !! Pour the yogurt into a bowl, add the blueberries, sprinkle granola bits all over the top and finish it with slices of strawberries. My little guy Andrew LOVES this treat because the process of making it is really in his control and its fun !! When  children are in charge of what they’re making they are most likely to eat it . Try it out and let me know how it works for your kiddo !!
